Sustainable Agriculture and Community Farm
The local government in Tanzania donated 25 acres of land to Rise Africa for sustainable agriculture and food production. By developing this land we will provide food for the orphans and create jobs and therefore support the local economy. Our vision is to have a community farm where everyone can contribute through their work on the farm and receive produce. This would allow people to provide their family with food without needing to make an income in a difficult economy. Building an Orphanage
2.4 million children have been orphaned in Tanzania. Projections by the U.N. suggest that by this year there would be 53.1 million children under 18 bereft of their parents in Africa. 15.7 million of whom will have had parents who died of AIDS. In Manyire we currently have approx. 100 orphans. Please support us in creating a safe and nurturing home for these orphans.
Sewing Machines
Orphan girls proudly display the clothing they have made with sewing machines that were purchased by Rise Africa. The machines not only provide them with clothing, but also allow these girls to learn a trade and therefore promote their self-sufficiency.

Health
An old convent in Manyire, Tanzania was donated to Rise Africa for the purpose of creating a community health center. Health care is fundamental in empowering people and meeting their basic needs. There is a great lack of medical providers and health education everywhere in Tanzania, but especially rural areas. We are planning to provide education on HIV prevention, reproductive rights and the dangers of female genital mutilation as part of community health services offered at the clinic. Funding for medial equipment, supplies and beds is urgently needed.

Micro Loan Program
Micro loans provided by Rise Africa allowed this family to acquire sheep and dairy goats for subsistence farming.
Micro loans are small loans extended to those in poverty to spur entrepreneurship and economic growth. They enable extremely impoverished people that traditionally lack access to credit to engage in self-employment projects that allow them to generate income. In many cases this result in people being able to built wealth and rise out of poverty. So far, Rise Africa has facilitated micro loans for 100 families in Manyire village. |
Grain Milling
In 2007, when Marie arrived in Manyire Village she asked the women what their most urgent need was. The spontaneous answer was: “A grain milling machine, because we have to walk three hours to have our grains milled”.
Grains, especially corn is a staple food in East Africa. Donating a milling machine was Rise Africa’s first accomplishment. For the project a building was established to house the machine (posho mill). The income from the milling machine helps support the school village.
